I think in between all the chaos in our everyday life, we forget to stop and be thankful for all there is to give thanks to. We consume ourselves in any negative scenario we come across. Naturally, we invest most of our time worrying about all the not so great stuff than ever appreciating the good. If we make a conscious effort to look for all the good, you’ll find a drastic shift in your overall mood and perspective. At the end of it all, it’s the little things that matter the most; maybe looking forward to waking up in the morning for your much needed cup of coffee, seeing your friend at work and catching up, coming home to your sweet puppy, or simply having a place to call home. I started this a few months ago and I wanted to share will y’all how much it has impacted me as a person. So, i encourage you to try these out
There is good, look for it
When you find yourself in the most unexpected scenario thats well, not so good. What do you do? I assume your answer is something along the lines of; getting frustrated, coming up with the “what ifs” “why me” “seriously? whats next?” focusing on the worst of what occurred, or simply giving up. Guess what? thats okay, normal, typical. Nothings wrong with that. The part that we go wrong is in letting it consume us. Our thoughts can’t remain negative, or that is all we will ever attract.
Instead, Its important to remember of all the good that can come out of any situation, or the good found within the situation. Lets say you’re already running late to work and are stuck in traffic, what could possibly be good here? Well, you have a reliable transportation system, you have a place to call work, your boss will excuse your first tardy. It doesn’t mean you don’t get frustrated about the situation, it means making a conscious effort to switch your focus from the negative to the good.
Give thanks for the little things
Every day, give thanks for five different things in your present life. This gives you a reminder of what you have that is worth appreciating. For me, I constantly remind myself to be grateful for things like these..
- I am grateful for my health
- I am grateful for my family
- I am grateful for my sweet boyfriend
- I am grateful for my amazing friends
- I am grateful for a place to call home.
These are all HUGE for me, yet they seem to be very overlooked on an every day basis. These are things we somewhat, expect to always be there. When we are juggling so much at once, its not always a habit to stop for a few seconds and take joy in what is right in front of you. I truly encourage you to try this exercise, it makes a world of a difference.
Do what you love, love what you do.
What is it that you enjoy giving your free time to? Music? Cooking? Crafting? Whatever it is, are you doing it? I think I think part of finding the good is bringing good to the table. This means putting time aside to allow yourself to do what makes you feel good and happy. I know that for me, if i dont pick up my guitar for too long or write out my thoughts, I start feeling uneasy. It might sound odd, but to me this is almost therapeutic. To those creative people reading this, I know you get it. If you want to know more on how to achieve this, the Girl Boss Ebook
is rich on this topic
Life happens, it gets in the way and throws you huge curve balls. Something I’ve been working on is acceptance. Accepting we don’t have full control on what comes next. Accepting that you are going to want and expect certain results, but sometimes they simply don’t show up as planned. I don’t look at this as bad thing, but as a lesson and a call for patience. Learning to accept what this world throws at us is probably one of the hardest thing to master, but it is absolutely necessary. There is no point in stressing, worrying or getting caught up in things you have no control over. It does no good, and fixes absolutely nothing. Moral of the story, it is a waste of your time. Part of focusing on the good is accepting what you can’t change and changing what you can.
This may not be for everyone, but it surely is for me. I don’t know how I would go through my days without prayer. I think its important to say simple prayers of thanks through out the day
- Thank you for waking me up this morning
- Use me for your purpose today
- Thank you for letting me be here
- Hey God, please give me patience and understanding
- Take all my anxiety and turn it into peace
This takes two seconds of your time. Yet its so impactful and comforting to have someone to talk to whenever and wherever.
Thats all for today, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready for an amazing coming week!
What do y’all do to kick bad days in the butt? I love hearing from y’all! Whether its a comment or message I enjoy getting to know y’all a bit better 🙂
